Michelle Williams rose to fame in the late nineties on the hit television show Dawson’s Creek (with friends Katie Holmes, James Van Der Beek & Joshua Jackson). During and shortly after the series end, Williams starred in commercial mostly comedic roles until 2005 when she was cast in Brokeback Mountain with Jake Gyllenhaal and the late Heath Ledger. After that Oscar nominated role, her career didn’t really take off in the traditional sense, she chose to do mostly independent fare, but she’s been widely respected in the industry ever since.
Michelle has also become quite the fashionista. Her rare appearances on the red carpet are anxiously awaited and highly praised. Except that one unfortunate time at the Golden Globes in 2011.
In honour of her 35th birthday today, we decided to do a special Wednesday Top 5 best looks.
Here is our Top 5!
05. Independent Spirit Awards (2012)
We don’t know many A-list actresses that could pull off a menswear suit on the red carpet, let alone a mini-shorts menswear suit! Michelle Williams is one of the select few who can, she looks absolutely radiant in this Louis Vuitton creation. Well done, Michelle!
04. Met Gala (2011)
Williams likes to wear colour or soft pastels, we rarely see her in head to toe black. This cinched Miu Miu dress with big bird appliqués still has that delicate feel that Michelle loves, but it also has the imposing power of a black gown. An overall great choice!
03. Street of New York City (2013)
Yes, we know, she didn’t wear this dress on a red carpet, but she looks SO GOOD in this floral Jason Wu dress that we couldn’t not include it in our Top 5. It’s the perfect summer dress, and it features one of Michelle’s signature colours; yellow.
02. Academy Awards (2006)
The first time Michelle was nominated for an Oscar (for Brokeback Mountain) she attended the award ceremony with her then boyfriend Heath Ledger wearing a STUNNING yellow Vera Wang gown that made everyone gasp! We believe it was in that exact moment that she became a fashion darling.
01. Academy Awards (2011)
For her second Oscar nomination (for Blue Valentine) Michelle went full glamour at the ceremony in a jaw-dropping Chanel Haute Couture gown. It’s so simple, yet so gorgeous, it’s the definition of timeless elegance.
