If you’re in the fashion industry, or heavily present on social media, you’ve probably noticed an emerging trend amongst millennials and generation Z: gender neutrality.
Unisex brands and unisex clothing have been around for ever, but this is different. The younger generation is rejecting the traditional gender binary. They’re more concerned with personality and identity than gender. You’ve probably heard about certain celebrities embracing this movement as well; Hari Nef, Miley Cyrus and model Lily-Rose Depp consider themselves gender neutral.
Industry tastemakers have taken notice in a major way, with the Instagram posts, street style pics, blog posts and gender and season neutral collections we’ve been seeing recently.
Streetwear designers like Bianca Chandon, Hood By Air and Yeezy have already adopted the trend, and major industry players like Hedi Slimane, Vivienne Westwood and Gucci‘s Alessandro Michele has dabbled in the mainstream as well.
Here are some new emerging brands that are all in on this trend.
We can’t help but think these youthful iconoclasts have something to teach us. And let’s not forget this is more than a fashion statement, it is a whole movement.
