Spring/Summer 2016 is chock full of surprising and exciting trends that we’ve rarely seen before, one of them of particular interest to us is the Athletic wear/Formal wear mixing trend.
We’ve always been fond of mixing different prints and having stripes and florals in one outfit, even in one fabric. More is always better when it comes to prints.
The athletic/Formal trend is different though, it’s not so much about prints as it is about textiles and individual garments.
A lot of designers seem to be on the same wavelength because this trend was featured at no less than a dozen shows. Street style is really trickling up this season, from the urban streets to the runways.
We saw hoodies with satin dresses at Alexander Wang, we saw sporty trench coats with tight mini dresses at Lacoste and bomber jackets with dresses at Rag & Bone.
Marni showed us overalls on top of maxi dresses, Public School paired windbreakers with dresses, Paco Rabanne went as far as mixing lingerie with sporty rain coats. One of our favourite fashion houses Chloé made everything a little more seamless with formalish track suits and hippie maxi skirts thrown in for good measure.
If we look at this trend in terms of Télio fabric, it would be like making two garments made out of our Morocco Blues (style 36659, colour 01) and our Marni Shadow (style 36875, colour 05) and wearing them together! It can be as simple as that. One acts as a more formal/traditional fabric and the other one has a sporty/utilitarian aspect.
