At Télio, with our vast collection of fabric, we sometimes like to challenge ourselves to fun inspiration exercises. We pick something, or someone, and we pick fabric to associate with it/them.
When we heard Catherine Deneuve, the grand dame of French cinema, was going to celebrate a birthday, we decided to challenge ourselves to pick 5 fabrics that made us think of her.
She has such a distinct style and presence, it wasn’t as hard as we thought it would be!
If you’re not familiar with her film work, we highly suggest you check out these titles: Les Parapluis de Cherbourg (1964), Repulsion (1965), Belle de Jour (1967), Le Dernier Métro (1980), Indochine (1992), The Hunger (1983) and of course the Lars Von Trier classic Dancer in the Dark (2000).
Most of us in the fashion world appreciate her for muse status at the house of Yves Saint Laurent, the genius designer who dressed her for many of her films. Deneuve was also part of a Louis Vuitton campaign in 2007.
Deneuve is 72 today, but she’s as beautiful as ever. A true style Icon!
Here are the 5 fabrics that we chose to represent her:
Winslow Suiting (style 36540, colour 06)
As far as we could see, Deneuve mostly wears dark colours, so we didn’t chose anything out of the ordinary for her. We chose this dark grey suiting for everyday wear. Something she could wear as she’s going from business meetings to casual dinners.
Marni Mix (style 36537, colour 04)
We chose this awesome black and burgundy mix for those evenings when she goes out and she wants to be a little more edgy, whilst staying classy and elegant.
Melton Fancy (style 36841, colour 02)
Again, a dark colour, this melton would be perfect as a city coat for those colder evenings.
Estia Knit (style 36770, colour 02)
We’re sure Deneuve still likes to go dancing once in a while, like she used to do at Studio 54. This Estia Knit would make a perfect wrap dress to go dance the night away in!
Micro Velours (style 36559, colour 04)
This velours would be perfect for a tight fitting, curve hugging, evening gown for a walk up the steps at the Cannes Film Festival. A festival Deneuve has attended many times.
Do you appreciate Catherine Deneuve’s classic style and elegance? What kind of fabric would you see her in? Let us know!
