Another 1990s resurrection is on its way. The iconic slip dress will have another go at it.
Most of you might remember the slip dress as an integral part of Kate Moss‘ wardrobe in the 90’s (she’s still wearing it today), from the paparazzi pictures of the daring Princess Diana wearing one of John Galliano‘s designs to an event in 1996, or perhaps you remember one of the slip dresses from one of its earlier lives as worn by Elizabeth Taylor in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof in 1958.
Regardless of where first saw it, it’s origins date back to the 1930s, where it was created to be worn under sheer dresses so as not to show too much skin.
What differentiates the slip dress from other spaghetti strapped dresses is the fabric used, usually silk, chiffon, certain types of lace or anything very light as well as the fact that it’s cut in bias, for that perfect draping effect.
The Fall 2015 shows had us seeing slip dresses all over the place, including; Céline, Hugo Boss, Prabal Gurung, Salvatore Ferragamo, Rag & Bone and Jil Sander, amongst others.
