Recently, we gave a tour of our offices and our warehouse to a group of fashion design students. Usually, these groups are very animated and have lots of questions about our process and our products.
This particular group however was very small and the majority of them were exchange students. They didn’t ask many questions, but we could see the excitement in their eyes when they were walking through our warehouse and seeing all the rolls of fabric.
Once we got to the showroom at the end of the tour and we let the students look through our current collection, I noticed something interesting. Three of the quiet girls had gravitated towards a section of our showroom with a lot of Chintz inspired small floral prints and they were visibly very excited about their find.
Creative people and influencers have always told us, look at the the kids are interested in, what they’re wearing and what they’re listening to and you’ll find out about the upcoming trend, in all aspects of culture. We didn’t think about that at the time, but lo and behold we find out that Chintz is making a comeback for Spring/Summer 2017!
Chintz prints originated in India in the 17th century, and have since become more associated with home décor than fashion. Being the object of countless 1970s wallpaper prints and dishes.
The Contemporary Chintz trend is nostalgic for retro florals but it wants them remixed and reworked, adding geometric shapes to the florals and varying the sizes and colours a lot. Traditionally the flowers were woodblock painted on a light background but today, chintz comes in every colour under the rainbow.
Here are some examples of the chintz we have in for this season, there will be tons more to come for Spring/Summer 2017!
Are you a fan of chintz? Were you ready for the trend to come back? Let us know!
