When we were growing up, it seemed like Martha Stewart was everywhere. She was on television, in magazines, in book stores, at KMart and in our bathroom at home (those Martha Stewart towels were so big and comfy). Her likeness and her lifestyle were omnipresent, inescapable.
At the time, we were too young to appreciate the work ethic and dedication of the woman who built her own empire, her brand.
Now, just when we start being into all the things Martha Stewart is about, it appears her brand and lifestyle has gone out of… style. The end of her TV show a in 2012 marked a turning point for Stewart. Perhaps the overexposure of the brand wasn’t such a good thing, what with the endless licensing deals and range of products, the Martha Stewart experience wasn’t so special any more. All we have left is the magazine and the website, but that’s enough for us!
We can still keep up with Martha and enjoy her recipes, do-it-yourself ideas and gardening and decorating tricks! Not to mention we still regularly flip through our mom’s old copy of Entertaining, Stewart’s first book, published in 1982.
Martha Stewart is an inspiration to us for many reasons. The first being that she gained major success in her career only in her 40s (Martha turns 74 today), which is kind of refreshing to hear (there’s still time!) and the other being that she was always about comfort! Even with a TV show, and a variety of appearances, Stewart always opted for comfort over everything. She loved her knits, her denim shirts and her slacks. She must have felt pressure to look good on television, but she never let us see that, she kept everything simple and effortless and we admire that.
She rarely wears prints, but she is definitely not afraid of colour! She doesn’t shy away from a bright cardigan (even though she had a definite soft spot for pastels) and will go as far as to match her clothing to her lawn chairs!
Here are some Télio fabrics we feel Martha would love!
