61 years ago today, Elvis Presley made his radio debut on WHBQ radio in Memphis, Tennessee. His first song with Sun Records, That’s All Right, was played for the first time on July 7th 1954. Upon hearing about this little anniversary, we thought; what a great opportunity to talk about one of the greatest entertainers of all time!
There are many reasons we love Elvis, his incredible voice, his touching songs, his cheesy movies, but most of all his OUTFITS! One of the very few men in the history of Rock ‘n’ Roll able to successfully pull off a jumpsuit! We don’t know any male artists today that could or would go near one!
Presley wore jumpsuits in every colour under the sun, black, red, baby blue, gold, but when most people think of Elvis in a jumpsuit, they imagine him in his signature white.
If one were to make their own Elvis Presley jumpsuit, say for Halloween, we have many fabric options for you to do so here at Télio! Our Parker Suiting, style 34819, comes in white, black and a perfect shade of blue (amongst many others colours), and our Downtown Suiting, style 33970, that comes in 13 different colours. Here are a few patterns that could help you in your Elvis Halloween project.
If a costume isn’t your bag, you might want to visit the Home of the King. In you’re planning on being in Memphis any time this year don’t miss the second most-visited private home in America (after the White House)! The 17 552 square feet, 23 room mansion named Graceland is where Presley lived (and died). Priscilla Presley opened up the home to the public in 1982, five years after the death of Elvis.
Not only can you visit the house, which has been kept exactly the way it looked in the 1970s, but you can see enough Elvis Memorabilia to last you a lifetime across the street from the mansion at the Elvis museum!
As if taking selfies in a dead man’s home wasn’t enough, Elvis is actually buried ON THE PROPERTY, as well as his parents and grandmother. We’re not sure we need to get THAT CLOSE to the king. We’ll just stick to playing his music in the office and dressing up like him for Halloween.
Are you an Elvis fan? Have you ever worn a glittery jumpsuit?
