If you’re like us, as soon as you see the shows for the following year’s fashions, you immediately start hunting for the key trends right away. In an effort to be the first to be instagrammed wearing next year’s IT colour, or next year’s singular trend. Whether you find it in stores, online, in vintage shops or you turn on that sewing machine and make it yourself, you must have it!
This would mean you’re currently in hot pursuit of some pleated skirts. The must-have item for Fall 2015 up to spring/summer 2016, seen at a variety of designer’s shows.
We’re particularly fond of how Marc Jacobs has interpreted the trend, with pleated maxi skirts in all types of fabrics; from heavy knits to leather! We love everything about his collection, from his navy centric colour palette to the mix of interesting prints that wouldn’t necessarily be seen together anywhere else. Not to mention his choice of the legendary Cher (in a pleated maxi-skirt) as his brand ambassador next season. Jacobs is taking us into all kinds of fun directions (as always) and we’ve buckled our seatbelt, excited for the ride.
We’ve also seen pleated skirts at; Bottega Veneta, Chanel, MM6 by Maison Martin Margiela, Dior, Oscar de la Renta & Just Cavalli. It looks like we’re going to have to say goodbye to form fitting skirts for a while. We can put our spanx back in the drawer for a while and let our hips breathe!
What’s fun about pleats is that there’s a variety of different styles; accordion pleats, box pleats, crystal pleats, inverted and knife pleats. All of those can be done in different sizes. The pleating options never end!
Are you excited for the return of pleated skirts?
