Trends come and go so fast nowadays that it can be tricky to navigate when choosing your festival gear. We were discussing this very problem at the Télio offices this week so we decided to create a Summer Festival Style Guide of DOS and DON’TS for you.
Let’s start with the DOS. All the trends you should be rocking at the festivals.
Obviously, one of the most accessible prints out there. Compared to other things we’re sick of seeing at festival, floral prints will most likely never fall into that category. They’re timeless, they’re cute and they look good in the sun! You can also make everything look a little more edgy with bold large prints, like Télio’s Brazil Print, Style 36227.
The athletic/sportswear look has been in for a while, but most people usually take from basketball. They wear jerseys and basketball shorts. Be the odd one out with the vertical stripped baseball jersey, it’s clean, it’s fun and its goes with pretty much everything (and if you get them big enough, you can wear it as a dress)!
Our new favourite trend of the season, fringe tops, fringe bottoms, fringe purses, fringe boots, fringe eveything! It goes without saying that there’s the added bonus of looking amazing in movement.
The underutilized festival print. We see florals, we see animal prints, but polkadots are rarely seen. Take advantage of that, big or small, polkadots always look cute. Feel free to mix them up with floral prints, the rules were made to be broken.
That dreamy look is immediately achieved by adding one lace item to your outfit, plus it breathes! Just don’t forget to put on sunscreen under the garment.
What better way to pay homage to the festival that started it all: Woodstock! Lucky for us, tie-dye is on trend this season, tie-dye shirts, tie-dye jeans, tie-dye accessories, the world is yours to tie-dye.
Finally, the DON’TS! The trends we’re done with!
Sure, Native American headdresses are beautiful, but they’re not a fashion accessory. They’re part of Native American culture and should be respected. Wearing a headdress to a festival is disrespectful and makes you look uneducated.
Yes, it’s light, it’s airy and it can be worn over anything, but it’s been done to death. A little originality please!
Have you ever seen a gladiator sandal sunburn? Not cute. If there’s anything worse than a gladiator sandal, it’s a cheap gladiator sandal, it’s so obvious it makes us cry. Opt for a cuter, less time consuming sandal.
It was cute for a second, but now that everyone is doing it, it got old really fast. Since it has no actual function other than being cute, leaving it at home shouldn’t cause any psychological setbacks.
–Booty Shorts/Mini Skirts
It’s a music festival, we’re there to have fun and be comfortable. We’ve never been comfortable in booty shorts or mini skirts, we constantly have to make sure everything is in place and we’re not have any wardrobe malfunctions. It’s better to opt for a cute knee length pair of vintage jeans, like Kendall Jenner wore to Coachella, so cute, so refreshing.
Are you going to any music festivals this summer? Do you have your outfits planned already? Let us know!
