You’ve seen Keith Haring’s work before. His art is instantly recognizable, the thick lines, the feature-less characters, the large abstract shapes and the bright colours.
Any artist who ventures into territory resembling the work of Haring is immediately called out on it. It seems his work has entered the ”untouchable” zone. People have been imitating famous artists since the beginning of time, but somehow his work is so unique yet easily copyable that it’s not tolerated.
Today, Keith Haring would have been 57 years old (he died in February 1990). We can only imagine the work he would be producing today with all the technological advancements we’re enjoying. If he’d been willing to embrace such things as photoshop and illustrator (his paintings seem like perfect subjects for these programs).
Hi work has been used in fashion numerous times, most recently in a Nicholas Kirkwood shoe collection. A lot of his murals are still there today, preserved for more than 25 years!
If you’d like to contribute to the Keith Haring Foundation(supporting organizations which provide educational opportunities to underprivileged children and the support of organizations which engage in education, prevention and care with respect to AIDS and HIV infection), you can do so here.
