Call it the Frozen Effect (2 years later and we still can’t get that song out of our heads) but we’ve recently become obsessed with Disney in fashion.
By no means is this a new trend, we all had a Mickey Mouse t-shirt when we were kids, right? But the infiltration of Disney characters into high fashion though, is relatively new.
We saw Bambi on the runway at Givenchy in Fall 2013 ready-to-wear (and on Amanda Seyfried in the ad campaign), designer Bobby Abley incorporated most of the characters from the Little Mermaid in his Spring Summer 2015 collection (including the sassy Ursula), Jeremy Scott did Mickey Mouse high top sneakers for Adidas in 2008 and street brand Supreme did a Snow White print on shirts and skateboards in 2011.
Are we longing for the carefree days of our childhoods? Has Disney high jacked our collective consciousness to the point where it comes out in our work? We’ll never really know.
All we know is that Disney characters are really cute and we want them on all of our clothing.
