The kimono, a traditional Japanese garment that literally means a “thing to wear” has been influencing designers for SS15. They are typically T-shaped, straight-lined robes that fall to the ankle and have a collar, long, wide sleeves and are tied by a sash called an obi. Designers like BCBG, Tome, The Row and Phillip Lim have taken just the right amount of inspiration from these beautiful traditional pieces and have turned them into chic garments that can be worn day or night. Seen in the form of jackets, dresses, skirts and more, the use of the sash is common and the length is typically to the ankle. Not only that but they have a very relaxed, comfortable look that still maintains a professional, put together feel. Flowy, relaxed fabrics are used for both comfort and whimsy.
