On the next few editions of colour crush, I wanted to talk about something rather serious in the fashion scene. Colour, colour, colour. More specifically the fact that we all tend to gravitate toward the same colours every passing season. By we, I mean us Canadians. We seem to be very, very wary about introducing brights and pastels into our wardrobe. When a designer or client asks me what the colour trends are, my general answer is “whatever you want it to be” because I believe this to be true. However, in all honesty, the colour trends really stay the same every Spring and Summer. Telio’s biggest selling colours for nearly a decade have been aqua, coral and cobolt. Although lovely colours, I am definitely over it.
Luckily and finally (!!) there are some new and typically overlooked colours trending on the market for S/S 2016. Our merchandiser sent out an email recently about orange being the next hit colour and i’ll admit I was pretty quick to shut it down since I cannot sell it or personally wear it, but it got me thinking about how silly my attitude is towards new colour and it prompted me dig a little deeper at my colour choices in general. Seeing as this has been yet another long winter, getting dressed in the morning is downright depressing. I really hate the lack of colour options i’ve had in my winter wardrobe and I have no one to blame but myself for that one. It’s time to change it up! So without further ado, let’s get going on the first of my top three NEW colour crushes for S/S 2016; Apricot!
I saw this colour pop up a few times at our wedding last summer and it was love at first sight. My cousin and sister in law had the same apricot coloured nail polish and one of our wedding guests was wearing this stunning apricot coloured dress and it was then that it became the colour I couldn’t stop looking for. It’s that perfect compromise when you feel coral is too girly and orange is too bright.
Do you think you would rock this beautiful colour?
