You may or may not have started to notice fringed S/S15 looks popping up in stores, but rest assured that this is a trend that will be coming on full-force in the upcoming months! This past fall at Fashion Week, high fashion designers made it clear that 70s fashion was making a strong revival, and with that message came hemlimes, gilets, dresses, and purses, all generously adorned with playful fringe.
While fringe can also be evocative of a 1920s flapper era style, this season is all about borrowing from the 70s, and that means calming, earthy tones, and lots of suede. Designers from the likes of Emilio Pucci and Alberta Ferretti embraced boho fringed looks, and we personally couldn’t get enough! Wonderfully evocative of the iconic, care-free style of the 70s, fringes add fun movement and fluidity to apparel and accessories alike.
When styling with fringe, make sure to keep it minimal. Too much movement in too many different places confuses the eye and is distracting. Fringed detailing is the best way to achieve this. Rather than a head-to-toe look, stick to one item to embellish with fringe, and work around it. If you’re a little apprehensive, go for a suede fringed bag and pair it with casual day-wear looks. Accessories are always an easier way incorporate something new!
Are you as happy as we are about the 1970s fashion revival?
