With the holidays slowly creeping up, I can’t help but to crave a little glitter- everywhere. I’m not typically one for glitz and glam, but every year at this time, I tend to pay these fabrics a little more attention. It just seems like every possible holiday-type party (work Christmas party, girl’s cocktail night, family get-together, New Year’s bash, hanging out at home watching Elf with my best friend) is THAT much more magical with a little bit of sparkle.
I’ve definitely impulsively bought a couple of sparkly pieces which I absolutely loved during the month of December, but found myself asking “what was I thinking” each time I overlooked them hanging in my closet, relegated to the island of forgotten sparkle. By all means, if you can afford to have a strictly holiday appropriate wardrobe, then go for it. Bring on the ugly sweaters, red and green sequins, and black metallic little black dress(es). But if you’re more like me and prefer to carry your wardrobe across seasons, here’s how you can get the best of both worlds.
Sequins are pretty versatile, dependent on their colour and pattern. With pastel colours continuing to be in for the colder months, and always working for warmer seasons, I think they are a great bet. Heck yeah you can wear that rose-colored sequined mini-skirt to the Christmas party AND wear in out at a chic bar this summer!
Also keep in mind that the sparkle need not be everywhere, because sometimes less is more. A sweet sweater, lightly adorned with sequined detailing or small metallic embroidered elements can easily be translated into a comfy winter staple. I also love a bright satin top with an embellished collar, which can easily be dressed up or down.
So bring on the sparkle- but do think about how to do so wisely ;).
