Guess what? Christmas is less than a month away! And, in 4 days will be the start of the best month ever – DECEMBER! If Christmas is not your cup of tea, please excuse this post. However, if you’re like me and the rest of the ladies in Merchandising, who have been listening to Christmas music since mid-November and can’t wait to bust out the ugly sweaters, well then you’re in luck. We wanted to focus on glitter and grandiose displays of Christmas love for our first holiday post of the year. In that spirit, we’ve done a roundup of the top 4 most spectacular department store windows in London for 2014. Prepare to be dazzled.
We’ve all been there. You’re walking down the street, lampposts adorned with festive tree trimmings, the snow is perfectly falling, and you’re sipping on your peppermint hot chocolate. You walk by a huge glass department store window, and can’t help but to follow the crowd and stop to admire the Christmas scene that has been so intricately set up. Beautiful isn’t it? Doesn’t it just get you in the Christmas spirit? Of course it does- and that’s the point. Big department stores invest much research, planning, and time to ensure that their windows have the right mix of whimsy and novelty to entice customers to stop in and ideally make a purchase! So let’s take a look at the some awe-inspiring displays…
This woodland, enchanted forest themed holiday extravaganza celebrates all that glitters. These displays have a dark undertone, making you want to stare just a little longer.
We can’t help but love this one! How cute is Monty the Penguin? In these window displays, you can follow Monty’s journey to find love. Animals doing human things are always amusing. Monty wears items that are sold in the department store to show how flattering they can be.
This Christmas, Selfridges has adapted classic fairy tales to include plenty of glamour. With displays dedicated to famous tales such as Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty, Hansel and Gretel, and Cinderella, audiences of all ages can appreciate this one. Can you spot all the different types of products scattered around these masterpieces?
With the most traditional of Christmas themes on our list, Harrods’s showcases all that you would expect from your favourite holiday movie. Rocking horses, dressed-up mice, sleighs, and galloping reindeer dance across the settings, bringing back all those magical childhood memories. With the icy blue skies and silver trees, Harrods’s contemporizes Christmas staples.
