Ever since meeting Hanna, designer behind the label Hanna Dorothy, I’ve been intrigued by her low-key personality and great style. She prides herself on designing an elegant and versatile collection that is produced ethically and locally, here in Vancouver. Now that’s something I can get behind! She recently answered some of my questions about fashion, design, and style. Enjoy!
How would you describe your city’s fashion?
Vancouver’s climate/culture has made me a more practical dresser and I like balancing that with dressing well. I don’t mind the yoga pants… maybe they could be paired with cuter shoes…
Favourite item in your closet
My thick navy Sessun sweater with brown leather trim; warm, luxurious, and very pretty.
Describe your personal style
It sounds counter-intuitive but I don’t like having to think about what I’m going to wear a lot. I like to wear simple things and I like to wear what’s in my closet over and over. Black is my true love.
What is your biggest fashion pet peeve?
The way clothing is priced. Big labels and fast fashion have confused the true value/cost of a garment. If clothing was priced more fairly, I think we’d be better dressed, save money, and waste much less.
What’s the first thing you notice when you look at a garment?
The fabric. It tells me most about the quality of the piece and how much wear I can get out of it.
