Every year fashion lovers around the world await red carpet photos from the annual Met Ball in NYC. As the most glamorous event next to the Oscars, men and women dress to the nine’s in the chosen theme. This year’s theme: White Tie and Decorations, specifically honored the late Charles James, a British born designer often referred to as ‘America’s First Couturier’. Now, what exactly does that theme entail? Forties and Fifties vintage inspired looks, with grandiose ball gowns, gloves and extravagant jewels for the ladies and for the gentlemen, black tails and tailored pants with a satin stripe contrasting their crisp white collared shirts, white waistcoats and cufflinks. Check out some photos from Monday night’s affair!
Sarah Jessica Parker went for a really classic ball gown look with a dress stamped by Oscar de la Renta. As one of the co-hosts for the evening, her look really exemplified the elegant theme. The black and white colour palette was worn by many others, including Anna Kendrick and Cara Delevingne who took on a more modern twist with Anna’s J Mendel dress cut out at the midriff and Cara’s Stella McCartney bandage top and trousers.
The following stars channelled a more vintage inspired look with high necklines and shiny details like the beautiful bespoke Prada dress worn by Margot Robbie as well as the Louis Vuitton dress Michelle Williams donned. Marion Cotillard was a bit more daring with her plunging neckline but brought back the Dior new look silhouette wearing the spring 2014 Dior Couture dress.
Another big red carpet trend was shine. The Liquid metallic fabric used to create the Michael Kors gown worn by Lily Aldridge, burn out silver velvet seen on Nicole Richie’s bespoke Donna Karan Atelier dress and Beyoncé’s sheer beaded gown by Givenchy Haute Couture exemplified this look perfectly.
Here are some TÉLIO fabrics that could have inspired this theme themselves! With TÉLIO’s Icy Chiffon, burn out velvet and classic black and white satins, we have something for everyone’s take on this year’s Met Ball Theme White Tie and Decorations.
There were so many other amazing looks! I loved Emma Stone’s pink midriff baring gown and Jeanne’s favourite was Naomi Watt’s ombré scaled chiffon gown.
Which look is your favourite from the night?
