“Fashion Zone” is Canada’s newest Fashion incubator, located at Ryerson University in the heart of downtown Toronto at Yonge-Dundas square.
An incubator is a place that offers businesses a wide variety of resources, support and services in order to foster growth, development and entrepreneurship. Fashion incubators typically offer a communal studio space that includes equipment and tools for all of the designers and artists to use within the space. The summer pilot phase of Fashion Zone started with only 3 businesses in the earlier part of this year and seems to be growing steadily, though still in the early stages. Last Thursday’s opening event featured a panel of designers, students and co-founders who explained their vision, and businesses and discussed what sets them apart from other incubators.
The main difference between Fashion Zone and other incubators is its worldwide accessibility. Not only do you not have to be a student at Ryerson, but it is open to anyone around the world, even to businesses that are not geared towards fashion. This incubator continues to grow thanks to support of the entrepreneurs within the DMZ building. They welcome all new artists and designers interested in starting their own business!
