Here are some interesting facts about Le château de Versailles:
The chateau is one of the largest palaces in the world. It has more than 700 rooms, 2000 windows, 1250 fireplaces, 67 staircases and more than 1800 acres of park.
When the château was completed it could accommodate up to 5000 people, including servants.
The paintings, tapestries, sculptures and furniture have been created by the best Italian and French artists of the decade. Charles Le Brun painted the most famous part of the palace; the Hall of mirrors.
The Royal Opera was first used for the wedding ball of Louis XVI & Marie Antoinette.
The château was converted into a museum in 1830, during the reign of Louis-Philippe.
